Nectar Premier vs Saatva Classic: Which Should You Buy?
These two get compared constantly because they sit in the same price conversation and both have generous trials. In practice they solve opposite problems. The Nectar Premier is a foam bed built to absorb movement and relieve pressure. The Saatva Classic is a coil bed built to stay cool and hold its shape.
If you read one line: couples with a light sleeper should buy the Nectar. Hot sleepers and edge-sitters should buy the Saatva. Everything below explains why, and where that rule breaks.

Feel
The Premier is a memory-foam-led bed. You sit in it, not on it. The top layers respond slowly, so when you lie down there is a moment where you are still settling. For people who find that comforting, nothing else feels right; for people who find it confining, it feels like being stuck.
The Saatva is the opposite. You sit on it, and it pushes back immediately. That responsiveness is why it is easier to change position on — there is no “pulling out of the bed” feeling — and why it is less effective at pressure relief for a heavy shoulder.
Motion transfer
This is the biggest functional gap and the one that should drive the decision for couples.
Foam absorbs movement. On the Premier, a partner getting up at 3 a.m. produces almost nothing on your side. On the Saatva, the coil unit transmits it: the mattress moves, and a light sleeper wakes.
If one of you is a light sleeper, this single difference outweighs everything else in this comparison. No amount of edge support compensates for being woken nightly.
Temperature
The reverse is true here. Memory foam is dense and holds heat; it also reduces airflow because your body sinks into it, removing the channels air would otherwise move through. The Premier uses a phase-change cover that helps at the surface, but the foam underneath still runs warmer than coils.
The Saatva, with a thinner foam layer and a cotton cover over two coil units, moves air. For a hot sleeper — or anyone in a warm climate without strong air conditioning — the Saatva is the more comfortable bed in July.
Edge support
Saatva wins clearly. A coil perimeter supports weight; a foam edge compresses. If you sit on the side of the bed, or you sleep at the edge because your partner takes the middle, the Nectar will feel like it is collapsing under you within a few inches of the perimeter.
Firmness options
Nectar gives you one. Saatva gives you three, and they are meaningfully different — see our full Saatva Classic review for which to order.
One firmness is not automatically worse. A single well-chosen medium-firm works for a large share of sleepers, and it removes a decision most people get wrong. But if you know you need firm, or you know you need soft, the Saatva lets you match; the Nectar asks you to adapt.
Delivery and returns
Both offer a 365-night trial, which is the strongest reason to consider either. The difference is what happens on day one and what happens if you say no.
Saatva delivers in-room, sets it up and takes your old mattress. Returns involve a pickup fee. Nectar ships a box you have to move yourself, and returns are free but require you to repackage or arrange a pickup depending on location — check the current terms, because they change.
If you physically cannot move a mattress, this section decides the purchase for you.
Verdict
Buy the Nectar Premier if: you share a bed with a light sleeper, you like the cradled feel of foam, you are under about 200 lb, and you are price-sensitive. It is the better bed for the money in that specific situation.
Buy the Saatva Classic if: you sleep hot, you sit on the edge of the bed, you want a responsive surface that does not fight you when you turn over, and you are willing to pay for in-room delivery. Order Luxury Firm.
Buy neither if: you have significant back pain that has not been assessed. Neither mattress is a treatment, and the right choice for a diagnosed condition is determined by trial, not by a comparison article. Read our guide to mattresses for back pain for the questions to ask before spending anything.
FAQ
Which is better for side sleepers? Both can work, but for different reasons. The Nectar relieves shoulder pressure better; the Saatva keeps the waist from sinking. A side sleeper over 180 lb usually does better on the Saatva, and a lighter side sleeper often prefers the Nectar.
Which lasts longer? The Saatva’s coil core resists compression longer than the Nectar’s foam, and its warranty is shorter but the physical structure is more durable. Expect the foam to soften noticeably around year five to seven; the coils should hold for longer.
Can I use either on an adjustable base? Yes. Both are compatible, though the Saatva’s weight makes it harder to fit and the Nectar is more flexible.
Do either of these sleep hot enough to matter? For a hot sleeper, yes — the Nectar runs warm and the Saatva does not. If overheating is your main complaint, that alone should settle it.
